The Arc Tennessee advocates for the rights and full participation of all people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. Through our family-based network of members and chapters, we support and empower individuals and families; connect and inform individuals and families; improve support and service systems; influence public policy; increase public awareness; and inspire inclusive communities.
For over 60 years, The Arc Tennessee’s public policy efforts, individual advocacy, and public awareness activities have led to meaningful lives in the community for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Our statewide network of dedicated staff and volunteers have positively impacted the lives of thousands of individuals with I/DD and their families through their tireless one-to-one support, education, mentoring and systems change efforts. Thanks to The Arc Tennessee, students with disabilities receive public education that had in the past been denied them; students with disabilities have protections from inappropriate use of physical restraint or seclusion techniques; adults with disabilities are empowered to self-direct their services and manage their own staff; and buildings are more accessible to people with disabilities.
