About Us

The Arc Tennessee empowers people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families to actively participate in the community throughout their lifetime.

The Arc Tennessee advocates for the rights and full participation of all people with IDD. Through our family-based network of members and chapters, we support, connect and inform individuals and families; improve support and service systems; influence public policy; increase public awareness; and inspire inclusive communities.

Since 1952, our advocacy and public awareness activities have led to meaningful lives in the community for people with IDD. Our statewide network of dedicated staff and volunteers have positively impacted the lives of thousands of individuals with IDD and their families through their one-on-one support, education, mentoring and systems change efforts. Thanks to The Arc Tennessee, students with disabilities receive free appropriate public education; students with disabilities have protections from inappropriate use of physical restraint or seclusion techniques; adults with disabilities are empowered to have jobs, self-direct their services and manage their own staff.
